PLANS to build an unwanted new supermarket have been given the push off.

Tesco wanted to extend an existing building on Sunninghill High Street to accommodate an Express branded convenience store but their scheme was turned down last night (Wednesday) at a meeting of the Windsor development control panel.

At the meeting at Windsor Guildhall councillors rejected the plans, which also included creating a dedicated parking and servicing area in the adjacent School Road, because it would be dangerous for vulnerable pedestrians, there was insufficient on-site parking and it would lead to loss of amenity for people who live nearby.

Panel chairman and Sunninghill and South Ascot councillor Alison Knight said: “Sunninghill is already a very congested area and parking is already very difficult.

“There are children going forwards and backwards and there are elderly residents nearby and I am very concerned about the impact of delivery vans with these vulnerable road users.”

Are you pleased the Tesco plans have been turned down, or would you like to see a Tesco Express is Sunninghill?
