Sculptures stolen in gallery raid
By Rob Frische
THE theft of £8,000-worth of art in a dawn raid has led to renewed calls for High Street CCTV.
Thieves broke in through the back door of eXpression art gallery in Crowthorne High Street and took a collection of bronze sculptures which had been installed 10 days ago.
Co-owner of the gallery Gill Foden said: “We are trying to get to the bottom of it and understand how they managed to get away even though the alarm was triggered.”
Two of the works by Paul Vanstone, an up-and-coming London sculptor, were very valuable.
The sculptures were taken at 2.15am on Monday.
Police carried out forensic finger-printing at the gallery. The shop is now looking at reinforcing security.
Chairwoman of Crowthorne parish council Tina McKenzie-Boyle said: “I would urge eXpression art gallery to
contact the council as we are building up a book of evidence, which we started last year, so that we can make an irrefutable case for installing CCTV in Crowthorne High Street.”
Anyone with information should contact Thames Valley Police on 0845 808808 or Crowthorne Parish Council on 01344 771251.
