A KEBAB van worker who was battered with a metal pole is demanding that 'proper punishment’ is handed out to his teenage attacker.

The 30-year-old, known as Ray, who owns and works at Abra Kebabra kebab van, has spoken of the night he was brutally beaten and left with a broken jaw and hand.

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, approached the van in Western Road, Bracknell, with an accomplice and demanded the worker empty his till.

When he refused, the pair pummelled him with a metal pole, fracturing his jaw and hand. They then fled empty-handed.

The teenager has pleaded guilty to the attack and is now waiting to be sentenced.

Ray, who now has the van parked in Easthampstead Road, said: “I know the attackers, they are regulars, and I think they needed money for drugs which is why they attacked.

“It is a shame that this happened to someone who is trying to make an honest living.

“They took advantage of the fact that there were two of them against me on my own. I couldn’t fight back anyway as one of them was only a kid.

“I had to have two operations after the attack. They should be properly punished for what they have done.”

The teenager and accomplice Matthew Teal, 25, from Apsey Court, Binfield, were arrested shortly after the incident, which happened on August 21, 2007, and were charged with attempted robbery.

The teenager was found guilty of attempted robbery at a Reading Crown Court trial on April 18 and will be sentenced at a later date, while Teal, who is currently serving a prison sentence, was found guilty at an earlier trial.

The 16-year-old who attacked Ray is currently serving a sentence in a young offenders institute for another offence in which he and another 16-year-old boy raided a house in Ashbourne, Great Hollands, on January 29 this year, stealing items including a mobile phone, jewellery, a handbag and a camcorder.

He appeared at Maidenhead Youth Court on April 10 for this offence, where he was found guilty of burglary and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
