Bubbling over: Terry Mulley with his hero Angela Sherrick.

DECIDING which bottle of plonk to get for that important dinner party or romantic meal with your partner can sometimes be a daunting prospect.

But help is at hand from an experienced Sainsbury’s shop assistant whose wine knowledge has seen her nominated for a Bracknell News Retail Hero Award.

Angela Sherrick has been a permanent fixture in the store since it opened in 1984 and has worked in the wine section for 14 years.

The 47-year-old, of Birch Hill, said: “We were at a funeral on Wednesday so I only found out about this the other night when I got home and my husband had a big grin on his face. I said ‘what’s going on’ and he said I had been nominated for the award.

“If people are looking for something in particular I can generally find it or something very similar.

“I’m passionate about my job and I really do enjoy helping my customers. It’s all about going that extra mile because if they get good customer service they will come back.”

Terry Mulley, 65, of The Oaks, Bullbrook, comes into the shop everyday and nominated her for the award.

He said: “Angie is always smiling and cheerful when I come into the shop. She is a pleasure to have around.”

There is still time to nominate more people like Mrs Sherrick.

If you know of anyone you’d like to nominate, who works in the town centre and makes your shopping trip more pleasurable, you could win yourself a £100 prize by putting them forward, so make sure you use the form on this page to do so.

The winner will be decided by a panel of judges and the award will be presented at the glitzy Outstanding Service to Consumer Awards (OSCAs) in May, which is being organised by Bracknell Regeneration Partnership.

Other OSCA category winners will be chosen by mystery shoppers going around town disguised as ordinary customers.

The awards are designed to improve customer service in the town, and to give staff a chance to socialise and let their hair down after working hard all year.

To nominate a helpful shop assistant simply fill in the form opposite and send it to:

Richard Crowe, Bracknell News series, Ocean House, The Ring, Bracknell, RG12 1AX or email rcrowe@berksmedia.co.uk

The closing date is Friday, April 25.
